Tottenham Fan Kicks Arsenal Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale After North London Derby Win
After Arsenal's 2-0 victory in the north London derby against Tottenham, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was kicked by a Tottenham fan in a post-match incident.
The Metropolitan police are investigating the assault, and Tottenham has vowed to ban the fan responsible. Ramsdale had celebrated in front of the South Stand and drew the ire of Tottenham substitute Richarlison.
Both teams converged as Ramsdale headed off to retrieve his drinks bottle, when a Tottenham supporter jumped on to the hoarding behind the goal and aimed a kick at him.
The incident left a "sour taste" for Ramsdale, but he stated that thankfully nothing too drastic happened.
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, did not want to comment on the incident, preferring to focus on the game and the team's current position at the top of the Premier League.
The Tottenham manager, Antonio Conte, and defender Eric Dier also condemned the fan's actions, calling them "unacceptable."
The Football Association stated it will work with the police, relevant authorities, and the clubs to ensure appropriate action is taken.
The Professional Footballers’ Association said such incidents were happening “far too often” and they will continue to work with the authorities to ensure players and staff are better protected in their place of work.
