Dana White Confirms Colby Covington As Next Challenger For UFC Welterweight Title After Leon Edwards' Historic Win
After Leon Edwards successfully defended his UFC welterweight title against Kamaru Usman at UFC 286, Dana White has confirmed that Colby Covington is next in line to challenge for the championship.
The British fighter made history with his win, becoming the first to defend the title.
Covington, who was present at the event and had cut weight as a backup fighter for the main event, will now be preparing for his shot at the title.

UFC president White stated that Covington deserves the fight, and it makes sense to have him as the next contender.
The judges scored the fight 48-46, 48-46, and 47-47 in favor of Edwards after a five-round war.
A number of celebrities and UFC fighters were present at the event.
Edwards expressed his displeasure with the idea of fighting Covington, saying that he had not fought for over a year and a half and questioned how he could slide in for a world title shot.
Edwards, who put in a tactical masterclass against the 'Nigerian Nightmare,' feels that he should decide who is next in line to challenge for his title.
Covington, who hasn't been in the octagon since his victory over Jorge Masvidal in March 2022, is still at the top of the list of welterweight contenders.
UFC president White was surprised that Usman did not wrestle more and commended Edwards for his performance in the fight.
Despite a points deduction in the third round for grabbing onto the cage, Edwards produced a stunning performance to secure the historic win at the O2 Arena.
White confirmed that Covington will be the next challenger for the welterweight title, setting the stage for an exciting showdown in the near future.
