The Los Angeles Lakers’ trade deadline move of acquiring D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley for Russell Westbrook and a first-round pick has paid off, especially with Beasley.

His $16.5 million team option for next season is reportedly expected to be picked up.

Beasley has been a great fit next to Anthony Davis and LeBron James, providing a much-needed 3-point shooting threat for the Lakers.

He has shot 35% from deep since joining the team and has scored over 20 points in three games.

Although Beasley experienced a shooting slump in March, he quickly bounced back and exploded for 24 points against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Lakers have until June 29 to decide on his option. If they don't pick it up, they would have to find another consistent shooter to replace him.

The Lakers currently have only four players on their books for next season: LeBron, Davis, Vanderbilt and Max Christie.

They also have a potential $32 million in cap space to work with, with free agents such as Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell and Rui Hachimura.

D’Angelo Russell has been a major surprise since returning to the Lakers, scoring 28 and 33 points respectively in his first two games back from an ankle injury.

His playmaking has been crucial for the Lakers while LeBron James is still sidelined.

Although he is a free agent this summer, rumors indicate that he and the Lakers are mutually interested in a contract extension.
