Memphis Grizzlies Overcome Ja Morant's Absence To Defeat LA Lakers In Game 2
Despite the absence of Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies managed to secure a hard-fought victory against the Los Angeles Lakers, evening the first-round series at 1-1 with a score of 103-93.
Tyus Jones took Morant's place in the starting line-up and put up an impressive performance with 10 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.
With their offensive firepower limited, the Grizzlies fell back on their identity, putting in a strong defensive effort to make life difficult for the Lakers.
The Lakers struggled to find openings in the Memphis defense and shot just 7-of-26 from beyond the arc.
Anthony Davis had a particularly bad night, scoring just 13 points on 4-of-14 shooting after taking an elbow to the face.
Despite spending much of the game with a comfortable double-digit lead, the Grizzlies faced a late surge from the Lakers, who cut the deficit to just six points with four minutes left in the game.
However, Memphis held their nerve and finished strong, with a Dillon Brooks 3-pointer sealing the win.
Xavier Tillman had an outstanding game, scoring 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting and pulling down 13 rebounds.
However, it was Brooks who caught the eye, as he engaged in a personal feud with LeBron James and the Golden State Warriors throughout the game, exchanging words and stares down the stretch.
James finished as the top scorer with 28 points, while Brooks contributed 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday for Game 3 in Los Angeles, with the series finely balanced.
