Carmelo Anthony Bids Farewell: NBA All-Star Announces Retirement After Illustrious 19-Season Career

Former NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement from professional basketball in a heartfelt social media post.

Anthony, a 10-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA selection, concluded his illustrious 19-season career with the Los Angeles Lakers. As the ninth-highest scorer in NBA history, Anthony amassed a total of 28,289 points, surpassing numerous basketball legends.

In a video, he expressed gratitude to the communities, cities, and fans who supported him throughout his journey, stating that basketball had been his outlet and purpose. Despite not reaching the NBA Finals often, Anthony achieved success on various fronts, including winning a national championship with Syracuse in 2003 and claiming three Olympic gold medals with Team USA.

Although he will no longer play in the NBA, Anthony will continue to be involved in international basketball as an ambassador for the upcoming Basketball World Cup. Reflecting on his humble beginnings and the impact of basketball on his life, Anthony expressed his gratitude for the opportunities and experiences that shaped him into the player and person he became.

Drafted third overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2003, Anthony left his mark on the franchise, ranking as their fourth all-time leading scorer and making significant contributions in various statistical categories. Following his tenure with the Nuggets, he joined the New York Knicks, where he spent over six seasons and embraced the iconic atmosphere of Madison Square Garden.

Anthony also had brief stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets before finding a new home with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2019. During his time with the Blazers, Anthony provided valuable veteran leadership and formed strong bonds with his teammates.

He later joined the Lakers in 2021, aiming to help the team contend for an NBA championship alongside stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, the season did not go as planned, and the Lakers fell short of making the playoffs.

In his retirement announcement, Anthony expressed his excitement about witnessing his son Kiyan's development as a highly regarded high school shooting guard. He emphasized that his legacy extended beyond his achievements on the court, as his son would now carry the torch and continue his journey.

With his retirement, Carmelo Anthony leaves an indelible mark on the NBA and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the game's greatest players and ambassadors.
