Colorado Rockies pitcher Ryan Feltner endured a skull fracture and a concussion when he was struck by a 92.7-mph line drive during a game.

The incident occurred in the second inning of the Phillies' 7-4 victory when Nick Castellanos, the Philadelphia Phillies right fielder, hit the ball back towards Feltner.

Despite attempting to evade the incoming ball, Feltner was hit on the back of his head. Although he fell to the ground immediately, he did not lose consciousness.

The Rockies' training staff assisted him to his feet and escorted him off the field. After spending the night in the hospital, Feltner's injuries were diagnosed as a skull fracture and a concussion following medical scans.

Rockies manager Bud Black provided an update, stating that although the situation could have been worse, Feltner would require some recovery time.

Despite being in a state of concussion, Feltner remained stable and communicated with players, medical staff, and his parents through text messages following the game.

Black further mentioned that Feltner would not need surgery for the fracture. The primary focus is on allowing the trauma to heal naturally, as time is deemed the most effective healer for head injuries.

Encouragingly, the outlook is positive based on the information provided to Black in the morning.

Castellanos, who reached first base safely with a single after the incident, expressed his concern and shock about hitting Feltner.

Although part of him wanted to approach the mound, he adhered to his baseball instincts and proceeded to first base. He anxiously hoped that the outcome wouldn't be as severe as it turned out to be.
