Luka Dončić Not Keen On Sharing Ball With Kyrie Irving Amid Mavs' FA Rumors, Says NBA GM
According to a general manager, Dallas Mavericks' star player Luka Dončić is not keen on sharing the ball with Kyrie Irving, whom the team is looking to re-sign this summer.
The anonymous GM revealed to Heavy.com that Dončić "doesn't want to share" with Irving.
Dončić, like many young players, is not accustomed to playing with such a great player and may struggle to adjust to sharing the ball with him.
The GM stated that Irving had been on his best behavior, trying to win over Dončić, who is a key player for the team.
Dončić is only 24 years old and has been the focal point of the team since joining as a rookie in 2018.
However, if the Mavericks want to re-sign Irving, Dončić may have to share the ball more often in the future.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has already stated that retaining Irving is their top priority this summer. Despite rumors about Dončić's future with the Mavericks, he just had the best statistical season of his career in 2022-23, even with Irving by his side for half the year.
Dončić averaged 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists while shooting nearly 50% from the floor and over 34% from deep in 66 games.
There have been rumors about Dončić's future with the Mavericks, and even the Utah Jazz are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation.
However, it is unlikely that the Mavericks will avoid re-signing Irving just because Dončić does not want to share the ball with him.
In fact, at some point, Dončić may want a talented player like Irving by his side, which could happen if the Mavericks re-sign the veteran.
