Cristiano Ronaldo Sets Guinness World Record With 200th International Appearance
Cristiano Ronaldo has added another accolade to his illustrious career by receiving a Guinness World Record for becoming the first male player to reach 200 international appearances.
The Portuguese forward achieved this milestone during Portugal's Euro 2024 qualifier against Iceland, solidifying his position as the most-capped player in international football.
The Guinness Book of Records officially recognized Ronaldo's achievement and presented him with a certificate before the match against Iceland. This remarkable feat adds to Ronaldo's extensive list of accomplishments in international football, where he currently holds the record for the all-time top goalscorer with 122 goals in 200 games.
Despite being 38 years old, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down and expressed his commitment to the Portugal national team. He emphasized his desire to continue representing his country, bringing joy to his family, friends, and the Portuguese people.
Ronaldo's journey with the national team began in 2003 when he made his debut at the age of 18. Since then, he has experienced triumph, including winning the 2016 European Championships, and has his sights set on the upcoming edition of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia has attracted other European stars to the Middle East. The latest addition is Ruben Neves, Ronaldo's Portuguese teammate and a midfielder for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Sky Sports reports that Al Hilal, a Saudi giant, has finalized a £47 million deal for Neves, who has agreed to personal terms. An official announcement regarding the signing is expected in the coming week.
Neves, known for his creativity, scored six goals and provided one assist in 41 games across various competitions last season. Despite being linked with clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona, Neves opted to join Al Hilal, becoming Ronaldo's rival in the Saudi Pro League next season.
In addition to Ronaldo and Neves, other notable players, such as Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante, have also joined the Saudi Pro League, signing with champions Al Ittihad. The influx of these high-profile stars highlights the growing stature and appeal of football in the region.
