NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has addressed the recent controversy surrounding Ja Morant, the star player for the Memphis Grizzlies.

The NBA is currently investigating an Instagram Live video from May in which Morant appears to be holding a toy gun. While Morant claims that the gun was not real, the league is taking the matter seriously.

Speaking on the Dan Patrick Show, Commissioner Silver acknowledged the reports circulating on social media and expressed his concern about the situation, regardless of whether the firearm was genuine or not. He emphasized the potential danger of livestreaming what appears to be a firearm in a reckless manner.

This is not the first time Morant has faced disciplinary action related to such incidents. In March, he was suspended for eight games by the NBA after posting a video on social media showing him holding a gun in a nightclub in Denver.

Following the suspension, Morant briefly sought counseling before returning to the court. The recent video has raised questions about whether he fully comprehended the severity of his actions and the potential consequences.

Commissioner Silver expressed his shock when he first saw the video, particularly because he believed Morant had understood the gravity of his previous transgression during their meeting in March. He stated that he had been reviewing the situation and gathering additional information before making a final decision.

The league is expected to announce its ruling once the NBA Finals have concluded. In the meantime, the Memphis Grizzlies have suspended Morant indefinitely from team activities.

The NBA's response to this incident highlights the league's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its players, as well as maintaining a positive image. The investigation will likely take into account Morant's previous suspension and any insights gained from counseling.

Ultimately, the decision will aim to address the potential consequences of Morant's actions and provide appropriate measures for his future conduct.
