In a surprising turn of events, Alistair Overeem, the former UFC contender known for his hulking heavyweight stature, has decided to retire from combat sports and adopt a vegetarian lifestyle.

This sudden shift in his dietary choices may explain his recent dramatic weight loss, leaving UFC fans stunned and curious about the underlying reasons behind his decision. Overeem had recently signed a multi-fight contract with GLORY, but it seems that he is ending his career after just a single appearance.

Overeem revealed his new dietary approach in an interview with Lovin' Dubai, where he expressed his belief that meat is detrimental to one's health. Despite acknowledging its delicious taste, Overeem explained that he now consciously chooses not to consume meat.

He attributes his dietary transformation to working with a specialized nutritionist named Julian VanHoven, who introduced him to detoxing and high-dosage supplements taken on an empty stomach. After a few weeks, Overeem noticed a change in his appetite and cravings.

The former UFC contender shared his personal experience, mentioning that he used to eat steak as early as eight o'clock in the morning, but gradually lost interest in it. Confused by this shift, he consulted his nutritionist, who informed him that he had parasites in his body.

By taking the supplements, Overeem started detoxifying his system and creating an alkaline environment that the parasites disliked. Eventually, the parasites were eliminated, leading to a change in his tastes and preferences.

Overeem emphasized that the desire for meat was influenced by the parasites residing within him, rather than his genuine preference. Once he got rid of them, he no longer had the same inclination towards meat.

Furthermore, he dispelled the misconception that fruit creates acidity in the body, stating that it actually alkalizes. Overeem claimed that humans are designed to eat fruit rather than meat, and an alkaline diet can also play a role in preventing cancer.

However, it is essential to approach cancer prevention with guidance from medical professionals rather than relying solely on individual experiences. At 43 years old, Overeem is currently serving a one-year suspension due to a failed drug test after his fight against Badr Hari at GLORY Collision 4.

His last appearance in MMA resulted in a technical knockout loss to Alexander Volkov at UFC Vegas 18 in early 2021, marking the end of his career in mixed martial arts.
