Six players, including Tim Anderson and José Ramírez, were handed suspensions for their involvement in a bench-clearing incident during a game between the Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago White Sox.

The altercation took place in the sixth inning at Cleveland's Progressive Field, leading to disciplinary actions. Michael Hill, MLB's senior vice president for on-field operations, announced the suspensions on Monday.

White Sox's Tim Anderson received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine due to his involvement in the altercation. José Ramírez, the Guardians' third baseman, was suspended for three games and received an undisclosed fine.

Emmanuel Clase, a pitcher for the Guardians, was suspended for one game and fined as well. Managers Pedro Grifol of the White Sox and Terry Francona of the Guardians each received one-game suspensions and undisclosed fines.

Guardians' third base coach Mike Sarbaugh also received a one-game suspension and a fine. White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech and Guardians outfielder Gabriel Arias faced undisclosed fines as part of the disciplinary action.

Terry Francona expressed that there would be consequences for such incidents and highlighted the need to listen to both sides of the story. Both Anderson and Ramírez chose to appeal their suspensions, causing the disciplinary actions to be put on hold until the appeal process concludes.

Francona hoped that Ramírez's suspension could be reduced due to his importance as a player. While Anderson and Ramírez appealed, Clase did not contest his suspension and served it immediately.

Grifol and Francona served their suspensions on Monday, and Sarbaugh was set to serve his suspension on Tuesday. Sarbaugh acknowledged that the situation escalated due to some comments, leading to his involvement in the incident.
