NFL legend Tom Brady has taken on a new role as a minority owner of Birmingham City, a Championship side.

The 46-year-old retired from football in February but has now joined Blues' new ownership group, Knighthead Capital Management LLC. In his new position, Brady will serve as the chairman of a newly-formed advisory board at St Andrew's, a move described as a statement of intent by Tom Wagner, co-founder of Knighthead.

Brady's involvement goes beyond financial investment; he is committing his time and expertise to the club. As the chair of the advisory board, he aims to enhance the performance of the men's, women's, and academy teams by focusing on nutrition, health, wellness, and recovery.

Additionally, Brady will play a vital role in the club's global marketing efforts and in identifying new commercial partnerships. This trend of American celebrities investing in English football clubs has been on the rise.

Notable examples include former NFL defensive end JJ Watt, actor Michael B Jordan, golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, as well as NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook, all of whom have minority stakes in various clubs, like Burnley, Bournemouth, Leeds United, among others. The takeover of Birmingham City was completed by Knighthead's subsidiary, SCL, which became the majority shareholder, taking over from the previous Chinese owners in July.

Brady expressed his excitement and honor in being part of the iconic Birmingham City club with its rich history and passionate fan base. As a player with an impressive record, having won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, Brady is eager to contribute his perspective and experience to lead Birmingham City to success.

With the new season starting, Birmingham City, who finished 17th in the Championship last season, will begin their campaign with an away fixture against Swansea. As a respected leader in the world of American football, Tom Brady's involvement in Birmingham City's journey promises to bring fresh perspectives and dedication to help elevate the club to new heights.
