The Rangers are sticking to what's been working as they head into the American League Championship Series, with manager Bruce Bochy announcing his starting pitchers for Games 1 and 2.

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery will get the nod in Game 1, while Nathan Eovaldi will take the mound for Game 2.

Montgomery expressed his excitement about the opportunity and the challenge of facing the Astros' formidable lineup, emphasizing the need to bring his A-game.

The return of ace Max Scherzer has added depth to the Rangers' pitching staff for the ALCS, but Bochy has not yet revealed his plans beyond the first two games.

Both Scherzer and Jon Gray, who may be used as a reliever, have been working on their readiness in bullpen sessions.

Montgomery and Eovaldi previously started the pivotal games in the Wild Card Series and the ALDS, contributing to Texas' success. Montgomery's acquisition from the Cardinals at the Trade Deadline has paid off for the Rangers, as he displayed consistency down the stretch, including an impressive 0.67 ERA in his final four regular-season starts.

His pitching coach, Mike Maddux, commended Montgomery's refined approach and execution on the mound, highlighting his ability to effectively utilize his unique pitching angle and repertoire against opposing hitters. The Rangers are counting on Montgomery and Eovaldi to continue their strong performances in the upcoming ALCS.
