In a major announcement today, the NFL declared the suspension of Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee for the remainder of the 2023 season, including playoffs, without pay.

This decision follows a violent hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. during Saturday's game, resulting in a 15-yard penalty and Kazee's ejection.

The hit, which occurred in the second quarter of the Steelers' 30-13 loss to the Colts, left Pittman with a concussion after a brutal takedown by Kazee.

Referees swiftly penalized the Steelers and ejected Kazee for violating rule 12, section 2, article 9, which prohibits helmet or facemask hits to the head or neck area of a defenseless player.

Former player and NFL vice president of health and safety Jon Runyan issued the suspension, emphasizing Kazee's status as a repeat offender as the basis for the severe punishment.

The suspension covers the remainder of the regular season and any potential playoff games.

In response to the suspension, Kazee is set to appeal, with the hearing to be conducted by either Derrick Brooks or James Thrash, jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFLPA. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
