Veteran starting pitcher Marcus Stroman has agreed to a lucrative two-year, $37 million contract with the New York Yankees, as reported by Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Stroman's decision to decline his $21 million player option for the upcoming 2024 MLB season paved the way for his entry into free agency.

While his performance on the mound in 2023 was noteworthy, particularly highlighted by a complete game shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays, Stroman faced challenges in the latter half of the season.

Post-All-Star break, the right-hander grappled with a rib cartilage fracture, sidelining him in August and contributing to a dip in his stats.

Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer described Stroman's season as "a tale of two seasons," acknowledging his early excellence and subsequent struggles.

Despite these challenges, Stroman's overall career numbers remain solid, boasting a 3.65 ERA and a 3.63 FIP over nine seasons. Known for his diverse pitching repertoire, including six different pitches in 2023, Stroman brings experience and depth to the Yankees' pitching staff.

Joining forces with 2023 AL Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole, Stroman's addition enhances the Yankees' pitching prowess, providing depth and reliability to the team's rotation.

As the offseason unfolds, fans eagerly anticipate the impact of this dynamic pitching duo on the upcoming MLB season. (Source: Breacher Report)
