In a surprising move, the Brooklyn Nets have announced the departure of head coach Jacque Vaughn, citing the team's 21-33 record this season as a contributing factor.

Vaughn had been at the helm since 2022 and played a significant role in the organization for the past eight years. Assistant coach Kevin Ollie is set to step in as the interim coach, according to multiple reports.

Nets General Manager Sean Marks expressed the difficulty of the decision, praising Vaughn's character and passion while emphasizing the team's need for a new direction.

The Nets, currently sitting at No. 11 in the Eastern Conference, face a challenging road to secure a spot in the Play-In Tournament, being 2 1/2 games behind the Atlanta Hawks. The team's recent struggles, including a devastating 136-86 loss to the Celtics, have prompted this coaching change.

Ollie, a seasoned coach and former NBA player, brings a wealth of experience to the interim role. Having played 13 NBA seasons, coached at UConn, where he won a national championship in 2014, and coached Overtime Elite, Ollie joined the Nets' staff this season.

Jacque Vaughn's coaching tenure with the Nets saw mixed results, with a 64-65 record over the last two seasons and a playoff appearance in 2023, ending in a 4-0 series loss to the Boston Celtics.

Vaughn had previously coached the Orlando Magic from 2012-15 and briefly served as the Nets' coach in 2019-20. (SOURCE: NBA)
