In a surprising twist leading up to the highly anticipated 'Knockout Chaos' event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua unveils how he draws inspiration from UFC legend Conor McGregor.
The former two-time heavyweight boxing world champion, fresh off a triumphant victory against Robert Helenius last August, reminisces about an unexpected encounter with McGregor at ringside, where the Irishman shared a taste of his Forged Irish Stout after Joshua's dominant performance.
Now, just days away from facing ex-UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, Joshua reflects on the influence McGregor has had on his approach to life.
Now, just days away from facing ex-UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, Joshua reflects on the influence McGregor has had on his approach to life.
Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, the 34-year-old British superstar expresses admiration for McGregor's larger-than-life persona and credits him with inspiring a more relaxed attitude in his own life.
"He's a larger-than-life character; he's someone you can take inspiration from,” Joshua shares. "Remember, you're only here once and you've got to love and live life. Each to their own, but a lot of people are quiet, reserved, and getting through life, but he's someone who's at the forefront of life and living it to its full capacity, and I love him for that."
Acknowledging McGregor's flamboyant and confident demeanor, Joshua encourages others to embrace a similar approach to life. "There's mileage in speaking to someone like Conor McGregor; even if it's a small gem, something is better than nothing. While you're here, love, live life. Be confident, flamboyant, be an extrovert, and don't be shy. When it's all said and done, you only get one chance at life."
Meanwhile, McGregor's future in the UFC remains uncertain. Despite recovering from a broken leg suffered in a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in July 2021, McGregor has yet to announce a comeback date. UFC CEO Dana White hints at the possibility that McGregor may never return, attributing it to the luxury afforded by his extreme wealth. McGregor, previously eager for a quick return, now has fans speculating on whether he'll ever step back into the octagon or pursue other ventures, including a potential boxing match with Manny Pacquiao.
