Inter Miami Opts For Rest: Messi, Suarez, And Busquets Benched In Montreal Clash Amid Grueling Schedule

Inter Miami fans were met with disappointment on Sunday night as the star-studded attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets were all left out of the starting line-up for the MLS clash against Montreal.

The most notable absence was that of Lionel Messi, who wasn't even included in the squad. Coach Tata Martino, recognizing the grueling early-season schedule, opted to rest the Argentina World Cup winner ahead of the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16 second leg against Nashville on Wednesday.

Although initially listed as questionable due to injury concerns, Messi's absence was later clarified as a strategic decision.

While Busquets and Suarez found themselves among the substitutes, Inter Miami supporters, who had invested both financially and emotionally in witnessing their star trio, were left questioning Martino's decision.

In a departure from the anticipated line-up, Martino adopted a 5-3-2 formation, with Leonardo Campana and Robert Taylor leading the attack. The midfield boasted a less common trio, featuring new signings Julian Gressel and Federico Redondo, alongside 22-year-old Lawson Sunderland.

Despite the absence of the star trio, Inter Miami has had a strong start to the season, remaining unbeaten and sitting at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference. The team secured a 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake in the opening game, followed by a 1-1 draw with LA Galaxy. Last weekend, they delivered a commanding 5-0 win against Florida rivals Orlando City.

As Inter Miami faces Montreal without Messi, Suarez, and Busquets in the starting lineup, the team remains confident in their ability to maintain their winning streak and continue their early-season success. (Source: Daily Mail)
