Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, is focusing on the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft, with the NCAA transfer portal as a backup plan.

This decision comes after James declared for the draft last week while keeping his options open for the transfer portal. According to a report from The Athletic's Sam Vecenie, James aims to dedicate his efforts to the NBA Draft process.

He hopes to secure a spot that he and his father's agency, Klutch Sports, would find appealing. League sources suggest that James will closely monitor the situation leading up to the May 29 withdrawal deadline to see where he stands.

Before entering the NBA Draft, James needs clearance from the NBA Fitness-to-Play Panel due to a cardiac arrest he suffered last summer. While he was cleared to play at USC, this could still be a challenge.

Despite being recognized as an NBA prospect with strong defensive skills, high basketball IQ, and athleticism, concerns remain. James had an underwhelming freshman season at USC, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. His offensive game needs improvement, making him a project for NBA teams.

The Lakers are among the teams keeping an eye on James. With their current 13th pick in the first round, they might consider drafting him to develop his skills. Another potential option could be the Philadelphia 76ers, who have shown interest in James and have cap space to possibly attract LeBron James to join their team.

As James continues to evaluate his options, he plans to meet and work out for specific NBA teams to gauge where he might land. This decision is crucial for his future, and he will consult with his family and Klutch Sports representatives to make the best choice for his career development.

While Bronny James faces a challenging decision, he is not alone in this process, but his situation is under intense scrutiny due to his famous background.
