In a tough start to the playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers faced a setback against the New York Knicks, falling 111-104 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Despite the loss, the Sixers received a boost when Joel Embiid returned to the court after appearing to reinjure his left knee.

After a strong dunk in the second quarter, Embiid seemed to hurt his knee but decided to play on. He finished the game with 29 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, showing his determination to help the team.

Teammate Tyrese Maxey praised Embiid's grit, saying, “Hats off to him, his determination and his will to win.”

However, Embiid's efforts weren't enough to overcome the Knicks' strong performance, particularly in the second quarter where they outscored the 76ers 33-12.

Coach Nick Nurse commented on the risky play that led to Embiid's injury, saying, “I just think that was the play that happened. He had an angle, and that's how it unfolded.”

Embiid had previously torn his meniscus and underwent surgery in February. Although he returned to help the Sixers make the playoffs, he has been dealing with knee issues throughout the season.

Looking ahead to Game 2 on Monday, there may be concerns about Embiid's fitness. However, Nurse believes Embiid will continue to battle through, saying, “I think he is really a warrior and he’s battling. He absolutely wants to play.”
