In a surprising turn of events during the Warriors' last game of the season, Klay Thompson stole the free-throw percentage title from his teammate Stephen Curry. With Curry sitting out the meaningless season finale, Thompson seized the opportunity to claim the crown.
Before the final game, Curry was leading the league in free-throw percentage, closely followed by Bogdan Bogdanovic and Damian Lillard. Thompson wasn't even in the running, as he hadn't reached the required number of made free throws.
However, Thompson changed the game by going 5-for-5 from the line, reaching his 125th made free throw of the season. This achievement qualified him for the free-throw percentage crown, finishing at an impressive 92.7%. Curry admitted he had no idea Thompson would surpass him, saying, "Klay was ineligible until last game. He made all five, so shout out to him."
This isn't the first time a Warriors player has outperformed Curry in free-throw percentage during a season finale. Two years ago, Jordan Poole did the same, with both players fully aware of the competition. Poole edged out Curry with a 92.5% to 92.3% lead, earning a trophy from Curry at the following season opener.
Steph was leading the NBA in free throw % going into last day of season. Klay wasn’t even eligible until he hit the 125 FT mark by going 5/5 in the last game.

Klay finished the season with the highest. When he found out, his response was “oh that’s cool.”
Steph was irked😂
Curry remains the NBA's career leader in free-throw percentage at 91%, slightly ahead of Steve Nash. Despite this, Curry could have had more single-season titles if not for teammates like Thompson and Poole, and former teammate Kevin Durant in 2013.

Although Curry was happy for Thompson's achievement, he jokingly hinted that Thompson shouldn't expect to take any technical foul shots next season if he returns to the Warriors, as Curry plans to keep him ineligible for the title.
