One glaring issue for the Lakers in their Game 1 loss was their poor defensive rebounding. The Nuggets capitalized on this weakness, grabbing 15 offensive rebounds compared to the Lakers' six. This allowed the Nuggets more scoring opportunities, making it challenging for the Lakers to keep up.
Anthony Davis acknowledged this problem, stating, "We can't be bad at defensive rebounding and transition. It's something that we struggle against this team with since last playoffs...Once again, that's our Achilles heel. We have to be better in both departments, if not one."
With both teams recording 34 defensive rebounds, the difference in offensive rebounds proved crucial for the Nuggets in controlling the game and securing the win. The Lakers will need to address this issue to improve their chances in the series.
