Ryan Garcia, a rising star in boxing, has threatened to leave the sport after both of his B samples tested positive for banned performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). This news comes from boxing writer Dan Rafael, who reported on Thursday that Garcia’s B samples confirmed the initial positive results for Ostarine, a prohibited substance.
The positive results stem from tests conducted before and after Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney on April 20. Garcia won by a majority decision in a surprising upset, despite missing weight by 3.2 pounds and facing questions about his mental state.
When the first positive results emerged on May 1, Garcia maintained his innocence. Following the latest confirmation, he reacted strongly on social media, saying, “Let’s go we positive. Positive vibes bruh. Yess so happy,” in now-deleted posts. He added, “I F***ING LOVE STEROIDS. I don’t care I’ll never make money again with boxing. Your loss not mine for setting me up lol joke’s on y’all. I will swallow all steroids.”

Garcia’s lawyers quickly responded with a statement. They insisted that Garcia is committed to fair play and never knowingly used any banned substances. They highlighted that Garcia had his hair tested by Dr. Pascal Kintz, a top toxicologist, which came back negative for Ostarine, suggesting contamination instead of intentional use.
The statement noted that Garcia has consistently tested negative throughout his career and before the fight, indicating that the tiny amounts of Ostarine found (in the billionth of a gram range) were likely due to contaminated supplements.
The legal team is currently testing all supplements Garcia used before the fight to find the source of contamination.
