UFC Legend Jon Jones Warned He's Not The Best Heavyweight Despite Being Champion

A former UFC contender has stirred controversy by claiming that Jon Jones, despite being the current world champion, is not the best heavyweight fighter. Jones secured the heavyweight title by defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 last year. However, he missed his first title defense against Stipe Miocic in November due to an injury. Although Jones is back in training, he won't be fighting again until the end of the year.

In Jones' absence, the UFC crowned an interim champion, Tom Aspinall. Aspinall claimed the interim title by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich and is set to defend his belt against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 before Jones returns.

Former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub believes Tom Aspinall is the true top heavyweight, accusing Jones and other fighters of avoiding him. Schaub argued on his show "Thiccc Boy" that Jones and Gane are dodging Aspinall, with Gane opting to work on a movie instead of fighting for the interim title. Jones is considering a match with light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira rather than unifying the division against Aspinall.

“You’re going to hear this narrative from Jon Jones and his fans that Tom Aspinall doesn’t deserve it,” Schaub said. “But the truth is, nobody wants to fight Tom.”

Schaub also criticized Jones for what he sees as choosing easier opponents. He noted that Jones' fight with Miocic, while notable, is against an older fighter who hasn’t competed in three years. Schaub suggested that Jones selected Gane as his first opponent because he perceived him as an easier victory.

“If Tom Aspinall was an easy fight, they would fight him,” Schaub continued. “Notice how Jon jumped quickly to fight Ciryl Gane because it was an easy path to victory. But Tom Aspinall is the best heavyweight in the UFC right now, and nobody wants to fight him.”

As the debate continues, fans eagerly await Jones' next move to see if he will face Aspinall and settle the question of who truly is the best heavyweight in the world.
