Gervonta Davis Surpasses Floyd Mayweather In Knockout Wins

Gervonta Davis continued his impressive knockout streak on Saturday night with a stunning eighth-round victory over Frank Martin. This win allowed him to retain his WBA lightweight world title and marked his 28th knockout in 30 professional fights. Davis' knockout ratio now stands at 93.3%, the second-best among active world champions, just behind Artur Beterbiev's 100%.

Davis' victory also brought another milestone: he has now surpassed his former mentor, Floyd Mayweather, in career knockout wins. Mayweather, who retired with a perfect 50-0 record, had 27 knockouts. His last knockout came against Conor McGregor in 2017.

Mayweather was known for his strong punching power in the lighter weight classes but relied more on defense and counterpunching as he moved up in weight. In contrast, Davis combines Mayweather's defensive skills with a powerful knockout punch, making him one of the most feared fighters in the ring today.

Despite his knockout power, Davis still has a long way to go to match Mayweather's overall legacy. At 29, Davis is a two-weight world champion but has never held more than one belt in a single weight class at the same time. Mayweather, on the other hand, won world titles in five weight classes and was a unified champion in two.

Since their split in 2022, Davis and Mayweather have had a rocky relationship. They appeared to reconcile briefly after Davis' fight with Ryan Garcia last year, but tensions have since resurfaced. Recently, Davis threatened to knock out Mayweather after a heated exchange on social media.

Despite their feud, Davis continues to make a name for himself in the boxing world, aiming to build a legacy that might one day rival that of his former mentor.
