LeBron James' Texts To Dan Hurley 'Blew My Mind,' Says UConn Coach

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made waves during the team's coaching search, despite his camp saying he was staying out of it. Historically, James has given input on roster moves, but this time he wanted the Lakers to make the decision on their next coach independently.

Many believed James preferred JJ Redick, his podcast co-host. However, the Lakers surprised everyone by pursuing UConn head coach Dan Hurley. They hoped Hurley could build a long-term program similar to what he’s done at UConn. Although Hurley ultimately turned them down, he revealed on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" that James had texted him in support.

“We had some text messages. An incredible message from him over the course of the weekend, just talking about basketball and some different things, and letting me know that if he was there in L.A., that I’d have his support. Just think about that, man. That blew my mind. And the exchange even went through to when I chose to go in another direction. It blew my mind to get a text message from LeBron James,” Hurley said.

James’ outreach indicates he was in favor of Hurley’s potential hiring, even though he intended to stay out of the search. Now, with Hurley off the table, the Lakers seem to be shifting back to Redick, with an interview scheduled for this weekend. Redick reportedly understands the Lakers’ pursuit of Hurley and is willing to move forward with the organization.

LeBron James has previously praised Hurley, admiring the offense he runs with the Huskies. It’s clear that James believes Hurley’s approach would have worked well with the Lakers.

The next steps in the Lakers' coaching decision could also influence James' contract choices as he has the option to test free agency. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this situation unfolds.
