UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier has spoken out in defense of Jon Jones, who is facing two misdemeanor charges. Despite their heated past, Cormier believes Jones was "bombarded" after an incident with a drug test sample collector.

Cormier and Jones have had a rocky history, filled with championship battles and personal drama. While they are not friends, the tension between them has eased over the years.

Jones has been charged with assault and interference with communications following an alleged incident on March 30. Cormier came to Jones' defense, stating in a YouTube video that Jones has the right to have drinks in his own home. Cormier suggested that the interactions with the drug testers might not have been smooth due to Jones being tipsy.

"I don’t think much is going to come of it," Cormier said. "Because of everything that he’s done in the past, the light shines a little brighter on him, even in situations where it shouldn’t."

Jones has denied the allegations and shared surveillance video showing him high-fiving the sample collector, who claimed to feel terrified during the visit.

"If you are a Jones hater, and you are hoping something comes of this, I don’t think it will," Cormier added. "I think this man was bombarded a little bit."

Jones pleaded not guilty to the charges in a virtual hearing. Cormier, who has no legal role in the case, said it would have been unthinkable for him to publicly support Jones a short time ago.

"I’m not the judge, I’m not the jury," Cormier said. "I’m just a guy that doesn’t like a guy, standing up for that guy because I know it’s bullsh*t."
