Jake Paul’s Next Fight Could Be For A Title, Says WBA President

Jake Paul scored his ninth victory in the ring this weekend by defeating former UFC fighter and bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry. Paul won the fight in the eighth round by knockout, marking his sixth win by stoppage. Perry showed resilience, getting knocked down in the first round but surviving until the final knockout.
Paul’s last two fights were quick wins against inactive boxers Andre August and Ryan Bourland, both ending in the first round. His only loss came against Tommy Fury, a real cruiserweight boxer.
Despite a controversial upcoming match against 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, Paul’s dream of a world title fight got a boost. WBA President Gilberto Mendoza praised Paul and his promotional team on social media and hinted at a possible title fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Chavez Jr., who has faced issues outside the ring, also fought this weekend, winning a decision against Uriah Hall after nearly three years away from the sport. His performance was underwhelming, and his call-out of Paul post-fight was met with boos from the crowd.
Neither Paul nor Chavez Jr. is ranked in the WBA’s top fifteen. If Paul pursues the fight, the WBA might create a new belt for the occasion. The current world champion is Gilberto Ramirez, with Firat Arslan holding the Gold Champion title.
I am not against a @jakepaul v. @jcchavezjr for a championship…

Mendoza’s suggestion of a Paul vs. Chavez Jr. title fight received mostly negative reactions online.
