Joel Embiid Thinks Injuries Keep Him From Being Among The GOATs

Joel Embiid has achieved a lot in his NBA career. Considering he only started playing basketball at 15, his success is remarkable. However, injuries have plagued him throughout his career. He missed his first two NBA seasons due to injury and has been sidelined for 204 games—nearly three full seasons.
In discussions about the greatest of all time (GOAT), Embiid's name often comes up. Recently, he told the New York Times that he believes he could be in those conversations if not for his injuries. "I think so. I think I’m that talented," Embiid said. He emphasized the importance of winning championships, which requires support from teammates.
Embiid has faced numerous "freak injuries" during crucial moments, particularly in the playoffs. Despite these setbacks, his accomplishments are impressive. At 30, Embiid has won an MVP award, been a runner-up twice, and is the most efficient point scorer in league history. He has also been named to seven All-Star games and won two scoring titles.
Yet, the argument against Embiid as a GOAT is also strong. He has never made it to a conference final. His career scoring average of 27.9 points per game drops to 24.9 in the postseason. Bad luck, like Kawhi Leonard's buzzer-beater and playing alongside Ben Simmons against the Hawks, has also played a part.
Until Embiid makes it to the conference finals, his regular season achievements and scoring titles will be overshadowed. This lack of postseason success keeps him out of the GOAT conversation.
