Jorge Masvidal is gearing up for a big fight against Nate Diaz this Saturday in a boxing ring. But he’s also planning his return to the UFC, targeting a rival he never got to fight: Leon Edwards.
Masvidal and Diaz were supposed to box on June 1, but the match got moved to July 6 to avoid clashing with UFC 302. The fight will stream on DAZN, Fanmio, and UFC Fight Pass.
Masvidal told Michael Bisping that he’s still under contract with the UFC, which let him take a break to fight outside the organization three times. After those fights, he’ll return to the UFC for at least one more match.

“The plan is to come back to the UFC, definitely do another fight,” Masvidal said. “From there, I’ll see if I’m staying in the UFC or going back to boxing.”
The welterweight division has changed a lot since Masvidal was at the top, with new stars like Ian Machado Garry, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Jack Della Maddalena. Masvidal thinks the division is missing something—namely, him.

Masvidal has his eyes set on Leon Edwards, the current UFC welterweight champion. Their feud dates back to 2019 when they had a backstage fight after UFC London. Despite the heated moment, they never fought in the Octagon. Masvidal hopes to change that.
“I would love to fight Leon. Hopefully, he still has the belt when I come back around,” Masvidal said.
Edwards is scheduled to defend his title against Belal Muhammad on July 27 at UFC 304 in Manchester, England.
