LeBron James will be the flag bearer for the United States at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee announced this today.
James, a four-time Olympian, will lead Team USA at the Opening Ceremony on the Seine River. The event starts at 7:30 PM local time in Paris (1:30 PM EDT) and will be shown live on NBC.
Team USA athletes in Paris voted to select the flag bearers. James, who has won Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012, first competed in the Olympics in 2004. He is also a 20-time NBA All-Star and became the NBA’s all-time scoring leader in 2023.

James expressed his pride in representing the United States: “For a kid from Akron, this responsibility means everything to not only myself, but to my family, all the kids in my hometown, my teammates, fellow Olympians and so many people across the country with big aspirations.”
In Paris, James will join Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony as the only American men to compete in four Olympic Games. James has scored 273 Olympic points, the third-most for an American player.
USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland praised James: “Being selected by your teammates to carry the flag is a tremendous honor – and a testament to LeBron’s passion for Team USA and his dedication to his sport.”
James is the first man from USA Basketball to be a flag bearer. He joins Sue Bird and Dawn Staley, who have also had this honor. James was nominated by his teammate and first-time Olympian Stephen Curry.
The female flag bearer who will join James will be announced on Tuesday. The 2024 Olympics run from July 26 to August 11. The U.S. men’s basketball team will start group play against Serbia on July 28.
The USA Basketball Showcase ends today, July 22, with a game against Germany in London at 3 PM ET on FOX.
