In an exclusive interview with MARCA USA, Mauricio Sulaimán, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), explained why Mexican-American boxer Ryan García was expelled from the organization.

Sulaimán expressed deep concern about García’s physical and mental health. The decision came after García made offensive posts on social media, targeting multiple religions and races.

Sulaimán stated, "Today Ryan returned with an episode of anger on social networks with accusations and attacks against every religion and every race.

This followed by an ongoing and evident life that he is living, highly dangerous, in which he has been seen consuming alcohol and most likely other types of substances.

He obviously needs immediate help for his mental health and a total general evaluation of his health and his life, which is in serious danger."

Despite the suspension, Sulaimán mentioned that García could return to the WBC if he agrees to receive help and rehabilitate. "(Ryan) has to heal. Entering into everything that is necessary for his physical, mental, and social rehabilitation, and the offer of help still stands. He can no longer continue on the Council behaving like this."

Ryan García was the interim WBC lightweight champion in 2021 after defeating Luke Campbell. His fight against Devin Haney for the WBC super lightweight title did not result in a championship because García did not weigh in before the match.
