Ryan Garcia is facing another scandal. This time, boxer Oscar Duarte has accused him of using banned performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) in their December 2023 fight, which Garcia won by knockout in the eighth round.

Duarte found it "strange" that Garcia, who was initially overweight at their first face-off, managed to cut weight quickly and appeared more athletic within a month. He believes this was due to cheating. Duarte said, "Ryan did use banned substances. A month before, he looked fat, and by the weigh-in, he was very thin. It seemed strange to me that it happened so fast."

In their fight, Garcia knocked out Duarte in the eighth round. Duarte was unable to get up before the referee's count ended.

Despite these accusations, Garcia passed the anti-doping tests for the fight. However, four months later, he tested positive for Ostarine in tests before his fight with Devin Haney. As a result, Garcia was suspended for a year, lost $1.1 million in earnings, paid a $10,000 fine, and had his win changed to a No Contest.

Before learning of his suspension, Garcia announced his retirement from boxing. He has been involved in several controversies due to erratic behavior, drug use, and mental health issues. Recently, Garcia made racist comments on social media, leading the World Boxing Council (WBC) to drop him. He later apologized and said he would enter rehab.
