The president of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, will take the stage on Thursday night before Donald Trump officially accepts the Republican presidential nomination. This comes days after an assassination attempt on Trump.
Trump has embraced Dana White, a staunch supporter and the face of the popular combat sports franchise. Trump has attended several UFC events over the past year while dealing with court battles. With a style similar to Trump's, White will introduce his long-time friend at the Republican National Convention's finale.
Their friendship dates back to 2001. White, once a college dropout turned boxercise instructor, became UFC president after managing two MMA champions. At that time, MMA was struggling, facing backlash from politicians and being banned in many places. However, after New Jersey legalized the sport in 2000, Trump invited UFC to his Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, helping boost its profile.

The UFC has since become the largest MMA promotion in the world, valued at $12.3 billion. White has remained loyal to Trump, praising him at the 2016 RNC and endorsing him again in 2020. White, known for his brash style, has said he doesn't care about mixing business and politics. Despite controversies, including admitting to slapping his wife, White continues to support Trump.
In the past year, Trump has attended multiple UFC events, receiving thunderous ovations and taking VIP seats close to the octagon. The recent assassination attempt has reinforced White's support for Trump's re-election.

"Everybody wants to act like the tough guy. But when the [expletive] goes down, you find out who the tough guys are and who the tough guys are not," White said recently. "This guy is the legitimate, ultimate, American badass of all time."

Trump has reportedly rewritten his nomination speech to call for unity, but White's introduction is expected to be more fiery. The convention will also feature pro-wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, with one Trump surrogate likening Trump's entrance to "Hogan at Wrestlemania."
