Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is taking legal action against Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling for online harassment. Khelif, who won gold at the Paris Olympics, has filed a criminal complaint in France, accusing the two public figures of cyberbullying during her Olympic campaign. The complaint was submitted to the Paris public prosecutor’s office, which handles online hate crimes.
Khelif’s lawyer stated that the complaint could lead to an investigation of others who might have harassed her, including former U.S. President Donald Trump. The lawsuit was filed against X (formerly Twitter), where much of the alleged harassment took place.
Rowling, known for her strong views on transgender issues, posted several tweets about Khelif, accusing her of being a man competing in women’s sports. Musk also commented on the situation, agreeing with a tweet that said, "Men don't belong in women's sports."

The controversy surrounding Khelif stems from debates over gender in sports. Khelif, who has always identified as female, faced questions about her gender due to rumors about her having XY chromosomes. However, Khelif is not transgender and has been competing as a woman for years.
The International Boxing Association (IBA) first tested Khelif and another boxer in 2022 but did not suspend them until 2023. The IBA’s credibility has been questioned, especially after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed Khelif to compete in the Paris Olympics.
Khelif’s case highlights the ongoing debates about gender in sports and the impact of online harassment. She plans to continue her fight for justice even after the Olympics.
