Australian boxer and featherweight champion Skye Nicolson is standing up for two boxers caught in a gender eligibility controversy at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Nicolson, who fought in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, defended Algeria's Imane Khelif and Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting on social media.

Khelif and Lin were previously disqualified from the 2023 International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Championships due to testing positive for "XY chromosomes." Nicolson, who has fought against both boxers, said they have been unfairly treated.

"They were born female with XY chromosomes but have female bodies and have competed as women their whole lives," Nicolson explained. She argued that they do not have the physical advantages of men and have often lost fights to other women.

The IBA believes Khelif and Lin have competitive advantages, but Nicolson disagrees, stating, "If they had such advantages, they would win every fight, but they don’t."

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has supported the participation of Khelif and Lin in the 2024 Paris Games. President Thomas Bach condemned the negative media coverage and social media abuse, emphasizing that the issue is not about transgender athletes.

Nicolson concluded, "These athletes have represented their countries for years and do not deserve this mistreatment."
