Jayson Tatum: Limited Role In Paris Won’t Affect 2028 Decision

Jayson Tatum says his smaller role with Team USA this summer won’t impact his decision about playing for the national team in 2028. Tatum missed two of the six Olympic games, including the semifinal win over Serbia. He played 11 minutes and scored two points in the gold medal game against France.

Tatum mentioned that he won’t let his current feelings influence his future choices. “I need time to think about playing in 2028, and I won’t make a decision based on how I felt this time,” he said.

Team USA coach Steve Kerr explained that Tatum’s limited play was due to matchups rather than performance. Tatum missed both games against Serbia, where Kerr used a bigger lineup. He often played behind LeBron James and Kevin Durant, who later started in the final game.

Kerr also made adjustments, sitting starters like Joel Embiid and Derrick White for different games. Despite his limited minutes, Tatum expressed pride in winning his second gold medal and didn’t want to overshadow the team's success.

Tatum acknowledged the support he’s received from fans and his struggles with the experience. He noted that while it’s tough, he’s using it as a learning experience and a source of motivation for the future.
