Kyle Guy Retires From Basketball, Joins Virginia Coaching Staff

Kyle Guy, a former Miami Heat player, has retired from basketball to join the Virginia Men's Basketball coaching staff.
Known as one of the best shooters in Virginia's history, Guy was the 55th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks and played three seasons in the league, most recently with the Miami Heat during the 2021-22 season.
In his last NBA season, Guy averaged 3.9 points per game, shooting 40% from the field and 35% from three-point range in 19 games. Over the past two seasons, he played overseas.

On Wednesday, Virginia announced Guy's new role as Athlete Development Mentor/Special Assistant.
Guy expressed his excitement to return, saying, "C’ville I am back! I want to sincerely thank Coach Bennett and Carla Williams for trusting me with the opportunity to come back and begin this next chapter of my life."

Besides the Heat, Guy also played for the Sacramento Kings. His career averages are 3.1 points and 1.0 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 36.1% from the field and 30.3% from three-point range in 53 regular-season games.

Guy's playing career is best remembered for his time with the Cavaliers. In the 2019 season, he averaged 15.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, helping Virginia win the NCAA Championship over Texas Tech.
