During the USA-Brazil Olympic basketball quarterfinals, LeBron James thought the loud cheers from the Paris crowd were for him.
As he took a seat on the bench after the USA’s dominant win, James playfully pretended to put a crown on his head, thinking the crowd's excitement was directed at him.
However, the cheers were actually for another star in the crowd—French swimmer Léon Marchand. Marchand, who has become a beloved figure in France after winning four gold medals and one bronze at the Olympics, was in the audience.

When the crowd spotted him, they erupted in applause. Unaware that Marchand was present, James continued to pose for the cameras, not realizing that the moment belonged to the French swimmer.
While LeBron is a global superstar, on that night, it was Marchand who was the star in the eyes of the French fans.
