Magic Johnson Fires Back at Anthony Edwards Over Skills Comments

NBA legend Magic Johnson didn't take kindly to Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards' recent statement about past NBA players lacking skill. Edwards claimed that Michael Jordan was the only skilled player from previous eras, a comment that didn’t sit well with Johnson.
In an interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, Johnson responded sharply. "I never respond to a guy who's never won a championship," Johnson said. "He didn’t win a college championship. I don't know if he even won a high school championship."
Edwards made his comments during an interview with the Wall Street Journal, where he suggested that the game was tougher back then, but not many players had skill like today. "They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don't think anybody had skill back then. Michael Jordan was the only one that really had skill," Edwards said.

While Edwards has had success, like winning a Georgia state title in 2018 and an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2024, he hasn't achieved much in the NBA playoffs. In his four seasons with the Timberwolves, he has only made it past the first round once.

Johnson, on the other hand, is a five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers and was named Finals MVP three times. He also won a college championship with Michigan State in 1979, defeating NBA legend Larry Bird in the title game.
