Mike Tyson has been warned that his upcoming fight with Jake Paul could be very dangerous for his health. Tyson, the former heavyweight champion, will face Paul on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, in a match shown live on Netflix.
Originally, the fight was set for July 20, but it was delayed after Tyson had a health scare. Tyson, now 58, hasn’t fought professionally since 2005, while Paul, 27, is in his prime and has been boxing for the past four years.
Dave Hancock, a well-known fitness expert and former physio for Chelsea and England, has expressed concerns. He believes Tyson's return to boxing is driven by money, which could push him to take dangerous risks.
Hancock said, "At Tyson's age, his reflexes and reaction time are not what they used to be. There could be serious health issues like heart and lung problems." He also mentioned that the financial incentive might be influencing Tyson's decision.
Earlier this year, Stephen Hughes, a Senior Lecturer in Medicine, also warned Tyson. He pointed out that older people are at higher risk of brain injuries and heart problems. Tyson's history with alcohol increases these risks, making the fight even more dangerous.
Hughes explained that older brains shrink, making veins more likely to tear and cause bleeding. This can lead to serious consequences like confusion, unconsciousness, and even death. He also said Tyson is more likely to have heart issues like irregular heartbeat and heart attacks.
Both experts are concerned that Tyson's return to the ring, especially against a much younger opponent, could have severe health consequences.
