Stephen Curry Files Trademark For 'Nuit, Nuit' Phrase After Olympics

Stephen Curry, the star of the Golden State Warriors, is making moves off the court. After a standout performance at the Summer Olympics, where Team USA defeated France 98-87 in men’s basketball, Curry used his now-famous “night, night” celebration after sinking four three-pointers in the final minutes of the game.

Following that moment, Curry decided to protect the phrase by filing trademark applications for “nuit, nuit,” which means “night, night” in French. He has applied for the trademark in both Europe and the United States.

Trademark attorney Josh Gerben shared the news, highlighting Curry’s intent to use the phrase on clothing. Darren Rovell from Cllct added that Curry’s company, SC30, filed for the trademark in Europe on August 14 and in the U.S. on August 19. Since Curry is the first to file, he has a clear path to securing the rights to the phrase.

Curry was even spotted wearing a “Nuit, Nuit” hoodie shortly after his game-winning shot, which was designed by art director Mike Fogg.

Fogg mentioned that the design was initially a one-off and wasn’t meant to be sold widely, but it gained popularity quickly, leading to bootleg versions and official merchandise.

By filing for the trademark, Curry is taking steps to protect his phrase. As the four-time NBA champion gets ready for his 16th season, he can look back on this moment with pride.
