Steve Kerr On Team USA's Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum Sitting Out at Olympics: 'We Have Options'

Team USA's coach, Steve Kerr, explained why stars like Joel Embiid and Jayson Tatum didn’t play in some Olympic games. Kerr's choices showed the team’s depth. In their 103-86 win over South Sudan, Embiid didn't play. Earlier, in a 110-84 win over Serbia, Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton sat out.
Kerr called this roster an "embarrassment of riches." The team has many stars, including champions and Hall of Famers. Kerr's strategy changes based on the opponent. Against Serbia, he wanted all three centers, including Embiid, to counter Nikola Jokic. Against South Sudan, he chose quicker players to match their speed.
Kerr doesn't focus on social media commentary about lineup choices. His goal is simple: win the gold medal. Kevin Durant supported Kerr, saying the team’s talent allows for flexibility. Embiid and Jrue Holiday will return to the starting lineup against Puerto Rico in their final group game.

Tatum understands the situation, saying it’s about the team, not individual players. He sees it as a learning experience and stays positive.
Kerr’s rotation decisions highlight the luxury of having such a talented team. If Team USA wins gold, the lineup choices won’t matter. Kerr is confident, saying, "We like our chances with the number of great players we have on our roster."
