Team USA Basketball Shows Poor Sportsmanship With Noah Lyles Tweet

In an exciting game, Team USA secured a gold medal against France in men's basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Steph Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant led the team to a 98-87 victory, outlasting a strong French team with young star Victor Wembanyama.

However, the celebration took an unfortunate turn when the official USA Basketball Twitter account posted a tweet saying, "Are we the world champs now?"

This was a jab at track-and-field star Noah Lyles, who had previously questioned the legitimacy of NBA champions calling themselves "world champions."

Lyles, who won a gold and a bronze medal at the Olympics, made those comments last year. He pointed out that while American sports leagues often declare their winners as "world champions," they don't compete against the rest of the world like athletes in global sports such as track and field do.

Lyles’ remarks were taken in stride by many, as he was simply pointing out a fact. His tone was generally light-hearted, even when poking fun at the NBA.

Given this context, many found the USA Basketball tweet unnecessary and in poor taste. The team had already proven their greatness on the court, and the tweet seemed to undermine the spirit of unity that the Olympics represent.

While Team USA’s victory was nothing short of spectacular, the tweet left a sour note for some. It served as a reminder that sportsmanship should always be a priority, even in moments of triumph.
