Tony Ferguson is set to return to the UFC Octagon this weekend at UFC Abu Dhabi, where he will face Michael Chiesa in a welterweight match. This fight could be his last appearance in the Octagon.
Ferguson has not won a fight in five years, with his last victory being against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 238. He has since been on a seven-fight losing streak, a sharp decline for someone once feared in the lightweight division.
His opponent, Michael Chiesa, is also struggling, coming off a three-fight losing streak.

In a recent interview, Ferguson revealed he has sparred for the first time in seven years, completing over 120 rounds. This is a significant change in his training routine.
“I think it’s pretty cool that I’m able to do this (fight in Abu Dhabi),” Ferguson said. “I went back to sparring… I put in about 120 rounds or more of sparring, good training partners, good vibes, a good team.”

After his loss to Paddy Pimblett in December, Ferguson had surgery on his knee and elbow, forcing him to slow down his training. He believes this was beneficial.
“It was only until January when I had my two surgeries... I had no choice but to go step by step to get my body back to where it needed to be,” he said.
Fans have mixed reactions to Ferguson’s return to sparring. Some support him, while others worry it might cause him more harm.
Wish the guy the best , but as a fan, I'm tired of hearing the same old thing from him. It's always went back to doing this and that... had the best camp ever ect...ect...

“It’s irresponsible to let this guy keep fighting,” one fan commented.
If Ferguson loses on Saturday, it’s unlikely the UFC will offer him another fight, given his age and current losing streak. Another fan expressed fatigue with Ferguson’s repeated claims of having the “best camp ever.”
Ferguson remains a fan favorite, known for his unique and intense fighting style, and his upcoming fight will be closely watched.
