Erriyon Knighton, a 20-year-old American sprinter who just missed winning a bronze medal in the 200 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is now facing a possible four-year ban from the sport.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is challenging a decision made by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which found Knighton not at fault for a positive doping test before the Olympics.

Knighton tested positive for Trenbolone, a substance commonly found in livestock. He claims the positive result came from eating contaminated meat from a bakery in Florida.

The USADA tested the meat and an independent panel agreed that it could have caused the positive test, allowing Knighton to compete in Paris.

Knighton’s attorney, Howard Jacobs, says they will fight the appeal, calling it baseless. He suggested that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) might be using Knighton to make a point in their ongoing dispute with USADA.

Knighton is seen as a rising star in track and field. Before the Olympics, he even got praise from legendary sprinter Usain Bolt, who said Knighton had been on his radar for a while.
