LeBron James’ son, Bronny, has found himself at the center of a new controversy. After his Lakers summer league debut, Bronny’s jersey sold for $38,500 at Sotheby’s auction. The 19-year-old had scored just 4 points in the game, which ended in a loss to the Sacramento Kings.
What raised eyebrows was the jersey's high selling price. By comparison, the jersey of 2024 NBA Draft’s top pick, Zaccharie Risacher, sold for just $3,360, despite him scoring 18 points in his debut.
The surprising price led to speculation, with podcasters J.E. Skeets and Trey Kerby from The Athletic suggesting that LeBron James may have bought the jersey himself. Kerby hinted that only someone with LeBron's billionaire status could afford it, pointing to the fact that LeBron earned over $480 million in salary and $900 million from endorsements.

However, Skeets defended LeBron, saying he could have simply asked Bronny for the jersey if he wanted it. Despite the rumors, it’s also possible that the high price reflects Bronny’s potential market value, thanks to his famous name and huge social media following.
Some believe the high sale price might help Bronny land bigger endorsement deals, much like NBA star Victor Wembanyama, whose jersey sold for $62,000 after his summer league debut, boosting his career opportunities.
While the rumors swirl, there’s no confirmation that LeBron actually bought the jersey, leaving fans to wonder who the buyer really is.
