Canelo Alvarez Outclasses Edgar Berlanga In Unstoppable Title Defense

Canelo Alvarez won a dominant fight against Edgar Berlanga in a unanimous decision on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The 34-year-old super middleweight champion controlled most of the fight, making it his eighth successful title defense. 

The sold-out crowd of 20,312 chanted Alvarez’s name throughout the night. Berlanga, 27, suffered his first career loss, bringing his record to 22-1-0. Despite his effort, he couldn’t match Alvarez’s skill and experience. 

Canelo landed more punches, hitting 43.3% of his shots compared to Berlanga’s 26.7%. The fight was intense, with Alvarez knocking Berlanga down in the third round. He kept the pressure on with strong punches in the later rounds, but Berlanga stayed tough and kept fighting.

After the fight, Alvarez said, "They said I don’t fight young fighters. I’m the best fighter in the world.” The judges scored the fight clearly in Alvarez’s favor, with two judges scoring it 118-109 and the third 117-110.


On the same night, in other boxing action, Erislandy Lara defended his WBA middleweight title, and Caleb Plant won a thrilling TKO in the ninth round against Trevor McCumby for the interim WBA super middleweight belt.
