Dennis Rodman, known for his wild behavior and incredible basketball career, gave a very emotional speech when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. For Rodman, this moment wasn’t just about basketball; it was also about his tough journey in life, including problems with his family.
During his speech, Rodman talked about how hard it was for him growing up without a father. He said, "I never had a father. My father left me when I was five years old. He has 47 kids in the Philippines, and I’m the oldest one. He wrote a book about me and made a lot of money, but he never came and said hello to me." This moment was very raw, showing the pain Rodman had carried for years.
Rodman also thanked the people who were like fathers to him, including coaches Chuck Daly, Jerry Buss, Phil Jackson, and a man named James Rich. They helped guide him when he needed it most.

In the speech, Rodman apologized for not being the best father to his own children. He also thanked his ex-wife, Mischelle, for being both a mother and a father to their three kids. He admitted that he regretted not giving his children the love and support he never got from his own dad.
Rodman also addressed his complicated relationship with his mother, Shirley. She kicked him out of the house when he was a teenager, and he held a lot of anger towards her for years. But as he got older, he realized he hadn’t been a great son to her either. He ended his speech by saying that he hoped they could fix their relationship and be close again.
Rodman’s speech wasn’t just about basketball—it was about forgiveness, regret, and trying to heal old wounds.
