Former NBA point guard Rajon Rondo has pleaded guilty to a gun charge in Indiana. Despite the guilty plea, Rondo will not spend any time in jail.

The incident began in January when Rondo was pulled over in Jackson County, Indiana, for driving over 100 mph. During the stop, police smelled marijuana and found a 9mm handgun, along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his car.

Rondo was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as drug-related offenses. However, the drug charges were dropped as part of his plea deal. Instead of serving 180 days in jail, Rondo will be on probation for six months. During this time, he must stay employed and avoid using drugs or alcohol.

Rondo’s gun charge was linked to a 2022 incident where he allegedly threatened a woman with a gun. Although he was not charged in that case, an emergency protective order prohibited him from owning a firearm.

Rondo initially pleaded not guilty and challenged the gun charge in court. However, after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a federal law restricting gun ownership for those under protective orders, Rondo changed his plea to guilty.

Rondo played 16 seasons in the NBA, winning two championships, and was known for his skills as a playmaker and defender.
